Have you ever played Battleship or searched for treasure on a map? You've used coordinates! Today we'll learn how to use a coordinate grid.

📚 What Is a Coordinate Grid?

A coordinate grid is like a map with two number lines that cross at right angles. It helps us describe exactly where a point is!

X-axis: The horizontal line (goes left-right)

Y-axis: The vertical line (goes up-down)

Origin: Where they cross — at (0,0)

📐 Plotting Points: (x, y)

Every point has an ordered pair (x, y):

x tells you how far to go right from the origin

y tells you how far to go up from the origin

Remember: "Along the hall, then up the stairs!" — x first, then y!

🎮 Let's Plot Points!

Example 1: Plot (3, 4)

Start at origin (0,0)

Move 3 units right (along x-axis)

Move 4 units up (along y-axis)

Start at origin

Move 5 right

Move 1 up

Example 3: What are the coordinates of the origin?

It's (0, 0) — you haven't moved anywhere!

💡 Key Rules

(x, y) — x first, y second — always in this order!

First quadrant only has positive numbers (right and up from origin)

(3, 5) is NOT the same as (5, 3) — order matters!
