🎯 What Will We Learn Today?

How much space does a 3D object take up? That's volume! Today we'll learn what volume is and how to calculate it.

📚 What Is Volume?

Volume is the amount of space inside a 3D object. It tells us how much a container can hold. We measure volume in cubic units — like cubic centimeters (cm³) or cubic inches (in³).

Think of filling a box with cubes. The number of cubes that fit inside is the volume!

📐 Volume of a Rectangular Prism

Volume = Length × Width × HeightV = L × W × H

All three dimensions multiplied together!

🎮 Let's Calculate!

Example 1: A box is 5 cm long, 3 cm wide, and 4 cm tall.
  • V = 5 × 3 × 4 = 60 cubic cm (60 cm³)

  • Example 2: A fish tank is 60 cm long, 30 cm wide, and 40 cm high. How much water can it hold?
  • V = 60 × 30 × 40 = 72,000 cm³ = 72 liters!

  • Example 3: A cube has side length 3 inches. What is its volume?
  • V = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cubic inches

  • 🔍 Area vs. Volume

    | | Area | Volume |
    |---|------|--------|
    | Dimensions | 2D (flat) | 3D (solid) |
    | Units | Square (cm²) | Cubic (cm³) |
    | Formula (box) | L × W | L × W × H |

Area covers the floor. Volume fills the room!

    📝 Practice Problems

  • Find the volume of a box 10 cm × 4 cm × 2 cm.

  • A cube has edges of 5 inches. What is its volume?

  • A container is 8 m long, 3 m wide, and 2 m tall. How much can it hold?

  • If V = 120 cm³ and L = 5 cm, W = 4 cm, what is H?
