📚 What Is a Fraction?

A fraction represents a part of a whole. It's written with two numbers — a numerator on top and a denominator on the bottom:

Denominator (bottom): How many equal parts the whole is split into

Numerator (top): How many of those parts we're counting

Fractions are everywhere:

¼ of a pizza (1 slice out of 4)

½ of a cake (half of it)

A baseball batting average of 3/5 (3 hits in 5 at-bats)

A glass that's 1/3 full
